Homegrown at Harvest at Limoneira
For residents of Harvest at Limoneira, the harvest happens right at home. With multiple community gardens ripe with seasonal produce and herbs, there is always something new to discover growing right in the community. Meet farmer Madi and learn more about what makes the wellness-focused lifestyle of Harvest at Limoneira so unique.
“Hi! I’m Madi, the Harvest at Limoneira community farmer. I work for Farmscape which is California’s largest urban farming company. We specialize in garden design, installation, maintenance, and programming across the state. I’ve maintained the Harvest at Limoneira community garden beds and fruit trees since they were first installed in 2019.
Currently, there are 21 beds located on either side of The Farmhouse full of seasonally appropriate fruits, vegetables, and greens. In winter, you will find broccoli, cabbage, sweet peas, salad greens, and root vegetables like radishes, carrots, and beets. In summer, you will find tomatoes, peppers, green beans, onions, cucumbers, and melons. You will find apples, cherries, nectarines, peaches, pomegranates, and avocados in the orchard. I refill and replant the garden beds twice a year with new seasonal items. Something new, fresh, and interesting is always growing in the community!”
Farmer Madi tends the garden beds once a week during her regular visits. The gardens are maintained using organic and/or OMRI-certified products and low-water drip irrigation. All the items harvested from the gardens are available for residents to pick up from The Farmhouse. Next time you’re at The Farmhouse, peek in on the gardens, and if you see Madi working, be sure to stop by and say “hi!” and learn more about what’s growing at Harvest at Limoneira.
